The London area has recorded its first case of the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.

At a press conference this afternoon officials with the Middlesex-London-Middlesex Health Unit said the person affected was a 40 year-old man who had recently returned from Mexico. 7 L- j( i; N3 C. D n! o

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Graham Pollett said the man did not require hospitalization and is recovering at home. Pollett characterized his flu as mild, similar to other cases reported across Canada and the United States.

1 u5 N: J, f! KThe HIN1 case was confirmed yesterday by a provincial lab in Toronto.

Associate Medical Office of Health Dr. Bryna Warshawsky said anyone who may have had close contact with the man has contacted and monitored and there is no indication of further spread in the community. R( K% G# L p8 o! [. r. p$ o6 I
